Winter is for ice skating! Ice skating is a great winter activity and becomes even more magical when done outdoors. Weather in West Michigan can be so unpredictable that outdoor rinks can be a hit or miss, but when the weather is great, ice skating outdoors can’t be beat! It’s so much fun and a great way to take in our West Michigan winter beauty! There are 4 great outdoor rinks in West Michigan for you to enjoy! Let’s talk about each one.

Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park: Muskegon Luge is a fantastic place to take in our amazing winter weather! Between the Luge track, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating, you can spend all day here! They have two ice skating areas-a huge 2-acre rink and a 1/4 mile skating trail! It’s all naturally frozen ice, so it is highly weather dependent. Fortunately, they have a conditions page on their website that will tell you if it is open or not, so make sure to check before you go. You have to buy a day skating pass for $10 and if you don’t have your own skates, rentals are $10 for the day. Their trails and rink are lit in the evening so you can enjoy ice skating at night too! There’s also an awesome fire garden where you can warm up and hang out!

Holland Ice Park: Opened in 2025, this rink has a huge rink area connected to a 700 foot skating ribbon. This is a refrigerated rink, so it can be open on days where natural rinks might be closed. They also have a separate curling sheet as well. Prices are $10 for rental for 90 minutes. There are only 150 skaters allowed per time slot, so you have to reserve online. There may even be live music in future!

Rosa Parks Circle: The classic ice skating rink! Enjoy the downtown Grand Rapids vibes while ice skating! This is also a naturally frozen rink, so it is highly weather dependent on when it will be open. Prices for skating are $6 for adults and $3 for kids. Skates are included in that price. You can either walk up or reserve online! The rink is also used for some of the fun activities, like giant Hungry, Hungry, Hippos during World of Winter.

South Haven Ice Rink: The only covered rink in this list, so inclement weather is never a problem! This rink is also cooled with coils, so the ice stays frozen longer than other places. Enjoy the cute downtown stores and then take a spin around the rink! They even sometimes have curling classes you can take! Admission is $6 and $6 for rentals. They also have some concessions if you want to grab a quick snack or maybe a cup of cocoa!

Here in Michigan we embrace the fun that is the outdoors! If you’ve never ice skated, why not get out and try something new? These outdoor rinks are sure to be a fun time, and you’ll make some great memories. However you decide to enjoy winter, get out and have fun!
