We’ve gotten a taste of fall weather recently, and we’re ready for apple cider, donuts, sweaters, and bonfires! September is the month of transitioning to fall where summer still hangs around for a bit even as the days get shorter. Even though school is back in session, there are a bunch of festivals and events to fill up your weekends in September! Check out our top events to check out this month!
Allegan County Fair:
The biggest fair in Michigan runs from September 8-16. There’s all the usual fair activities: carnival rides, animal shows, rodeos, demolition derbies, and more! This fair also books big-name artists for concerts and shows during the week! This year they have performances by Jake Owens, Riley Green, and Steve Trevino. It’s definitely an event to add to your calendar. Check out their website for a schedule of events.
Art Prize:
The annual favorite event, Art Prize starts on September 14 and runs until October 1. Every year there are hundreds of paintings, sculptures, and other art exhibits that are installed in downtown Grand Rapids, drawing thousands of people who come to see what local and national artists have made. It’s one of our favorite events of the year, and we always look forward to seeing what is made every year. It’s also FREE to attend!
Michigan Irish Music Festival:
A yearly favorite when all things Irish descend on downtown Muskegon for three days of music, food, and merchandise. There are 4 stages and over 30 artists to experience! Some of the artists this year include Malinda, One for the Foxes, Seamus Kennedy, and Mona Shores Fiddlers. It’s a great time of getting a taste of the Emerald Isle. Tickets are $10-$15 per day.
Michigan Apple Fest:
Maybe Irish music isn’t your thing, from September 15-16 head over to Sparta for the Michigan Apple Fest. There are apple peeling contests, pony rides, kids harvest activities, apple pie baking contests, and much more! Find all of the activities here.
