4 Coffee Shops You Need to Try in West Michigan

West Michigan seems to have as many coffee shops as churches. We are home to some amazing coffee roasters, creators, and entrepreneurs. Brands like Madcap, Aldea, Magnum, La Colombe, and more have their home in West Michigan. With so many coffee shops around, how do you choose where to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a nice atmosphere? Below are 4 coffee shops (and a bonus tea experience) I think you need to try! Who knows? One of these may just become your new favorite!

Grand Haven: Side Bar Artisan Coffee

Anytime I’m in Grand Haven, I want to stop here! Owned by Oddsides, they serve Madcap Coffee, Rishi Teas, and a variety of baked goods. There is tons of seating as the whole of Oddsides floor is open during their hours. I love all the wood and metal details and atmosphere here! Their drinks are well-priced and excellently crafted. I love grabbing a cup of their cold brew on the way to the Farmer’s Market or sitting down with a warm brown sugar, cinnamon latte! Their muffins, scones, and donuts are so good too! I’m not on a gluten-free diet, but their GF donuts are very yummy! If you don’t want something from their case, you are more than welcome to bring your own food or order food from nearby restaurants.

Muskegon: Gooleyguk Cafe

Tucked away in Muskegon’s Lakeside, Gooleyguk is a small shop serving up some great coffee, smoothies, and baked goods! I know the owners of the establishment, and they are wonderful people! They’ve partnered with 490 Bakery to create a quaint little space. I typically go for their yummy smoothies (I love the Marjorie), but have also sampled their coffee, and it was delicious! On shelves and throughout the store, you’ll find pottery and art pieces for sale made by one of the owners that make great gift items! You have to grab a cookie from 490 Bakery on your way out too! It’s the perfect little stop on your way to Muskegon Farmer’s Market or before hitting up Pere Marquette Beach.

Holland: KIN Coffee

KIN Coffee encourages its patrons to come as they are and embrace community. Located on Ottawa Beach Rd, it makes for a great stop-in on the way to the beach or downtown Holland, but I don’t think you’ll want to just pass through. They’ve created a vibe here that is meant to savor and enjoy! With a wide variety of coffee drinks, teas, smoothies, and food choices they are constantly experimenting and creating new menu items. As a push for creativity, they have creative nights once a month where attendees discover different crafts together like watercolors, oil pastels, rubber stamp making, and lettering. A must visit in Holland!

Hart: Stella’s Coffee House

It may be a little out of the way to be considered “West Michigan,” but Stella’s is one of my must-stops when I travel north! I also know the owner here and love what they are doing in the community! They have a number of delicious drinks to please anyone as well as incredible baked goods made fresh everyday! The owner is always experimenting in the kitchen to come up with mouthwatering sweets! Their cooler is stocked with to-go breakfast and lunch options. Take some time to shop the cute cards, mugs, and stickers they have as well. There aren’t many nice coffee shops in this area, so to have a place like Stella’s is a gem! Make sure to stop in before hitting up the Silver Lake Sand Dunes!

*Bonus* High Tea GR

Yes, I know this is a blog about coffee shops, but I also enjoy a cup of tea every now and then, and if I want to get fancy, I go to High Tea GR! This isn’t an ordinary tea shop, but one that serves British High Tea! If you’re unfamiliar with the term, High Tea is served late afternoon in Britain alongside cold sandwiches, scones, and a few small sweets. It’s practically a meal! It’s such a treat to go here, and I highly recommend if you’re looking for something different to do! You’ll feel right proper while sipping from China tea cups and nibbling on the delectable foods. Their menu changes seasonally, and they also host special-themed teas throughout the year! Go check them out and then enjoy a show of some kind at Wealthy Theater! Pinkies out!

Where do you enjoy grabbing a cuppa with friends and family or for remote work? We love exploring new places around West Michigan! Maybe we’ll even invite you to come along!
